That night I decided not to see him anymore. Something wasn’t right. This was definitely not a healthy relationship. It was getting too fucking weird for me and I’d only know him a few days. All day I sat in my apartment, chain smoking, drinking coffee and outrageous amounts of water, my thirst was unquenchable. I tried to eat a grilled cheese sandwich, but mostly just picked at the edges watching the dripping orange cheese turn hard. I was trying to figure out what to do. Formulate a plan of escape though why I felt a need to escape was beyond me.
I felt a hole of emptiness in my heart, a kaleidoscope of colors shifted in my head, making concentrated thought impossible.
For God’s sake, he called my work and lied. I could be dead and no one would even know. I had no immediate family to call upon and my friends were comers and goers and currently most of them were gone!
Where was Dave now, that was the exact question in my mind.
The telephone rang.
“Hello…?â€
“Miranda, this is Dave. How are you feeling?â€
“I feel like shit. What the hell is going on?â€
“Miranda, Miranda, listen to me. You need to calm down. I don’t know what you’re thinking, but it’s probably wrong.â€
“What have you done to me?†I cried. “I don’t know anything right now and you’re scaring me. Dave, I’m afraid of you.â€
“Hey, kiddo, I’m not the big bad wolf. I told you I love you and I do. It’s just difficult to explain. Can I come over? Talk to you in person?â€
“Dave, where did the last few days go? Where did they go?†I sobbed as I hung up the phone, sitting cross legged, waiting for the future to explain the past.
